Have you heard about
Kyle MacDonald? He might be better known as that dude who started out trading a red paper clip on craigslist, and now he's up to a year rent-free in a house in Phoenix, AZ.
Let me repeat. Monday style.
Now, after a few trades, he is up to one year's free rent on a house in Phoenix. He's still working getting that up to ownership of a house. Yes, from that one red paper clip. The guy is either a genius or a bastard, depending on how you want to look at it.
Me? I think it's a great story. But damn, I sure wish I'd thought of it first.
Instead, I'll just have to be happy singing along to music...
From
last Thursday... and wow, there were a few songs that nobody got. Either you're all slacking, or this is getting really boring. Or a bit of both. Or, maybe it's the fact that I listed to a lot of obscure music. I mean, who else can claim that they own Traci Lords' music CD? With that in mind, let's look at the answers...
- "You take it on faith. You take it to the heart."
Yes, indeed, The waiting is the hardest part.
- "Say, baby, do you wanna lay down by my side?"
This is repeated over and over, so if you've heard the song, you know the answer. It's Primus, with the song Tommy the Cat.
- "Am I black or white? Am I straight or gay?"
Controversy (Prince).
- "Fumbling his confidence and wondering why the world has passed him by."
We were Meant to Live (Switchfoot) for so much more... have we lost ourselves?
- My, my, my, whiskey and rye, don't it make you feel so fine?"
Not really, but at least I know this is Joan Jett & the Blackhearts with Do You Wanna Touch?
- "I know that hard luck and trouble is comin' my way, so rock me ’til I’m burned to the bone."
Remember back in the days when Whitesnake actually rocked? You know, before the pussy mainstream hits like "Here I Go Again"? Yeah. This was the rock version of Whitesnake, with Slow and Easy.
- "Hurt me, babe, I'll never let you hurt me again."
I don't think this was ever very popular, but I liked it. Well, still like it. It's Berlin, with Now It's My Turn. Yes, Berlin made a lot of good music before they jumped the shark (hello, take my breath away).
- "I saw your face and something told me you were the one. You smiled at me, and now I see my life's begun."
I woulda never gotten this either, and I've heard this song a billion times. And I like the song, too. It's the Commodores with Lady, You Bring Me Up (when I'm down. UP when I'm down. come on. I know you're singing that in your head right now).
- "If you surrender, you'll feel no pain, 'cause I'm the master at this game."
I'm not surprised nobody got this. Traci Lords. Control. And not the Mortal Kombat instrumental version - this puppy has words. And "singing." Before you laugh too hard, go look through your music collection. If you've got any Ashlee Simpson or Lindsey Lohan (or, gawd forbid, Paris Hilton) in there, you're not allowed to laugh.
- "I know that her love is true, but it's so damned easy makin' love to you."
Since we're "remembering when...", remember when Bryan Adams wasn't so much of a pussy? This is from "Run to You," on his Reckless album. Nowadays? Phil Collins, Sting, Elton John, and Bryan Adams seemingly compose the "Axis of pussy soundtrack music, specializing in animated features." For Bryan Adams, it started with Robin Hood's "Everything I do, I do it for you." What, am I wrong here?
Sorry for the commentary. But hey, it's always sad when you see a band/musician you liked, and then all of a sudden, they suck. It's tragic.
« close it up

Those were hard. I had a hard time with ones I should have known and then I got to "My, my, my, whiskey and rye" and despite the fact that I knew it wasn't American Pie, I couldn't try to think of any other tune for it.
It's not really fair to ask about Ashlee Simpson in my music collection. It's not like I'm the one that downloaded it. I have a wife to blame for things like that.
And yes, I am singing the Commodores in my head now.

What's cool is that Vox is friends with the singer that gave the guy the trade. She just posted
about this last month.
