Driving control

Let’s talk about driving for a second…

OK, so most adults I know have a driver’s licence.  Most people get theirs at 16, or pretty soon after that.  They’re easy to get, yet, you still have to take a test for it.  You have to study for it.  There’s a performance test (which I FAILED the first time – damned parallel parking).  After all that, you get a license.

Why can’t we make it this hard to get a gun?  Moreover, why should it be easy to get a gun?

Owning a gun means ” I CAN EASILY KILL SOMEONE.”  Do we really want guns in the hands of people who want a quick fix?

Let’s go back to driving.  Why the test?  Well, of course they want to make sure that you’re ready for the huge responsibility of driving.  Because, of course, a bad driver may hurt or kill dozens of people.  So, given that it’s such a responsibility, shouldn’t the standards for owning a gun be at LEAST as high?

“Guns don’t kill people.  Bad people kill people.”

EXACTLY.  Drivers don’t kill people.  Bad drivers do.  How do you stop bad drivers?  YOU TEST THESE MOTHERFUCKERS BEFORE YOU LET THEM DRIVE.  YOU TAKE AWAY THEIR SHIT WHEN THEY SHOW THEY CAN’T DRIVE.

Though I agree with the sentiment, Constitutionally these are not the same. Driving isn’t mentioned in the Constitution. Guns are. However, the 2nd Amendment isn’t about individuals keeping guns, it’s about States keeping guns. So, there is an opening where the States can use their power to regulate them.
