This is how awesome my company is:
They’re nice enough to give me the day after Christmas off, but if I want to take Christmas Day off, I have to use my paid time off. Or, I could volunteer to work.
Same goes for New Year’s. I work New Year’s Eve. If I want New Year’s Day off, then I have to use paid time off. Oh, but I get Monday, 1/02 off.
Whoopie! I get Monday, December 26th off! And January 2nd off! Thanks so much, big company. I didn’t need that paid time off, anyways (note: sick time and floating holidays also count as PTO, so basically, I’m having to forego some sick time just to get Christmas and New Year’s off).
Some people would say “You’re lucky you even have a job.” Fuck them. They probably all have Christmas and New Year’s off. Paid.

the good & the bad
You what makes me sad sometimes (well, ONE of the things)? When I accidentally see what’s trending worldwide on Twitter.
No, seriously.
I mean, the internet is a wondrous thing… we’re able to share information to the world instantly! That’s just awesome! And we can share ideas and insights and apply them to things that we didn’t think they’d apply to… take, for example, this story: Gamers Decode AIDS Protein That Stumped Researchers For 15 Years In Just 3 Weeks. That’s incredible! (The article has been updated to add that really, it only took them 10 days. TEN FREAKING DAYS) That’s just… wow!
And then, you look at Twitter. What’s trending on Twitter? Now, this list isn’t as bad as what was trending a while ago, but come on; #IGetRealMadWhen ? #TheresNoWayInHell ? THIS is what people are talking about, worldwide?
Gold Johnsons

Check this out… the vending machine at work can take $5 bills, and it gives dollar coins as change. These gold, Andrew Johnson $1 coins. Did you know we had these?
Much like the newly designed penny, I detest these. Not the actual coins; they’re pretty sharp, objectively. What makes me wonder is why we’re spending money on these in the first place. Did we need a prettier penny? What was wrong with the old ones? Are they trying to get us to like pennies? Why?
I dunno. It probably took a million or two (or twenty) to set up these redesigns; it just seems like that kind of money could be better spent. Kinda like that scene in “Dave”, it just seems sad that we’re cutting services and education money so that people can have a prettier penny. Or dollar.

That last post was probably TMI, I know… I’m sorry. But it was too long to tweet, and I sure as hell wasn’t gonna post it on Facebook. I guess I could have posted on Google+, but I wanted at least one person to read it…
Anyway, so I’m still trying to figure out what I want my blog to be… most bloggers nowadays blog about something… you know, like, a sports blogger. Or a game blogger. Or a mommy blogger. But I’m not any of that. I don’t want to be any of that.
I don’t want to have to write “articles”, either. I’m ok with structured writing for a while, but once the article starts getting long, I get lazy and start writing more “stream of consciousness”. Kinda like now.
But I prefer that. I don’t want this blog to be “about” anything. It will just “be”. And I’m not writing this for my “readers”; it’s for my friends, and whatever strangers happen to stumble upon this place.
OK, so speaking of stream of consciousness…
Just a (not so) random thought… one of the jokes between Joelle and me is what’s known as a “Chicago ending.” It refers to something that doesn’t know how to end, or takes forever to end. (think about every Chicago song you’ve ever heard… the ending is always clumsy, right? just like when you have a conversation with someone and neither person knows how to say “OK, see ya!”)
So now you’re in on one of our little inside jokes.
